In a spectacular start under the crystal clear mountains of Torres del Paine, the 2011 Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race began with a wild ride for the racers as they tailed a herd of horses down the dirt track on the opening cycling leg of the event.

This year’s race involved a total of 248km of mountain biking, 150km of trail-less trekking and 105km of river and sea kayaking in the wilderness of Chilean Patagonia. The 14 international teams had just 9 days to cover the distance. Only map and compass were allowed for navigation and only 6 teams managed to finish the race!

The most challenging part of this year’s Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race 2011 was the 150km of trail-less trekking in the wilderness of Chilean Patagonia.
