Arlberg local Gigi Rüf (29), is a true snowboarding icon. With over a decade of standout video parts with Absinthe Films and Pirate productions, Gigi is not only one of the most stylish snowboarders on the planet, he is also one of the hardest working. This year's release of his solo film Project 9191 (http://9191movie.com) confirmed his creative prowess, fulfilling a unique snowboard vision through multiple film mediums and an original soundtrack.

Burn Unit rider and French all-round aerialist Arthur Longo is on fire. From taking gold at snowboarding's most prestigious contest - The Arctic Challenge - in 2009, plus Rip Curl's Crans Montana Open in Switzerland, he focused on the Olympics last year, representing his nation in the superpipe at the Vancouver Games.

As Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck was happening, we decided to follow Norwegian Burn Units rider Ståle Sandbech, whilst he prepared for the competition. For want of a better phrase, we were very much stalking Ståle!

For the first time, the Burn Units convened from every corner of Europe to slay Italy's best park on the Mottolino in Livigno. Representing Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Italy, France, the riders showcased their variety of talents on and off the mountain (see Arthur's cooking section!) with the grand finale taking place at the epic Burn River Jump night contest. Last December, Gigi Rüf hosted our film crew at his uncle's mountain retreat to film 'Alive', one of the most ambitious short snowboard films yet made: a backcountry powder sequence filmed entirely at night.
The logistics of installing movie-set lighting on the side of a mountain were… challenging. Gigi described it as "the biggest film crew I've ever worked with"… While Gaffer Martin Niklas said it was "the smallest crew possible and the toughest job" of his career.
