Despite the threat of heavy rain in this afternoon’s finals of Round 4 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup here in Vallnord, Andorra, the light drizzle never evolved into anything that would have an impact on the racing, much to the relief of the attending crowd and race teams who all hoped for a clean race. Given what took place last year in Andorra, there were some anxious faces looking to the sky as the clouds rolled in, but in the end, the racing was tight and exciting, and full of drama.

The UCI World Cup made its penultimate stop for 2017 at the legendary venue of Mont-Sainte-Anne near Quebec in Canada. This was the site of Aaron Gwin’s first ever World Cup race, 10 seasons ago, where he finished an impressive 10th place. Aaron Gwin overcame the pressure of a tight points race at the final round of the 2017 World Cup to go on to successfully defend his 2016 World Cup title, and make it two-for-two for The YT Mob. Aboard his 2017 TUES CF Pro Race, the American essentially needed to finish ahead of series leader, Greg Minnaar (RSA) by at least 2 positions, or take the win in the final race, to secure the title.
