The UCI World Cup made its penultimate stop for 2017 at the legendary venue of Mont-Sainte-Anne near Quebec in Canada. This was the site of Aaron Gwin’s first ever World Cup race, 10 seasons ago, where he finished an impressive 10th place. This year, like many years at this venue, weather played a huge factor with the rain hitting the mountain with most of the top riders yet to finish. Aaron Gwin overcame the pressure of a tight points race at the final round of the 2017 World Cup to go on to successfully defend his 2016 World Cup title, and make it two-for-two for The YT Mob. Aboard his 2017 TUES CF Pro Race, the American essentially needed to finish ahead of series leader, Greg Minnaar (RSA) by at least 2 positions, or take the win in the final race, to secure the title.

The opening round of the UCI World Cup was turned on its head when the top 10 qualifiers from Saturday were dealt with gale force winds, rain and low visibility as they took to the challenging downhill track here in Lourdes (FRA), which lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. Despite the event being 2 weeks later than last year, snow fell on the track earlier in the week, and the sunny conditions of Saturday’s qualifying made way for very difficult conditions today in the finals....
