The world’s best bouldering athletes fight for an entry to the superfinal at the annual adidas ROCKSTARS invitational that is hosted in Germany on the 13th and 14th of September. Around 3,800 spectators can share the excitement when World and European champions, World Cup winners, and national champions impressively demonstrate why bouldering, i.e. climbing without a rope over a crash pad, is considered one of the most difficult disciplines in sport climbing. One year before the Olympics in Tokyo, where bouldering is one of three parts in the newly created combined competition (with lead and speed being the other two), the international bouldering elite comes together in Stuttgart to claim the adidas ROCKSTARS title in its ninth edition. Last year, Jernej Kruder (SLO) was crowned as “ adidasROCKSTAR” in a thrilling 1 vs. 1 in 2018 against Jongwon Chon. The South Korean will be returning as Kruder to hit the buzzer first this time and finally win the title. Japanese stars Yoshiyuki Ogata, Kokoro Fuji and Candian Sean McColl are the ones for Chon and Kruder to keep an eye on. In the women’s, Miho Nonaka claimed the adidas ROCKSTAR title last year and this year many talented female athletes like Jessica Pilz (AUT), Petra Klingler (SUI) and Julia Chanourdie (FRA) are waiting to compete in 2019’s edition of the superfinal.
