After another weather delay this morning due to bad visibility and strong winds, the skies cleared to a beautiful final day of competition at the 2016 LAAX OPEN. For 30 years the resort of LAAX in Switzerland has built its reputation as the world’s most progressive freestyle snowboard destination. The culmination of this development is the LAAX OPEN 2016 - a snowboard contest that brought together the world’s best freestyle snowboarders and upcoming riders for halfpipe and slopestyle competitions offering also live music events, acrobatic and mystic shows as well as a pop-up restaurant in the gondola hall to make it a true mountain lifestyle affair.

The LAAX OPEN 2017 continued today under blue skies and a picture-perfect winter scenery. Today’s center of attention was the perfectly prepared and creative Slopestyle course consisting of 6 features. The best 24 men and 12 women from yesterday’s qualification were competing for a spot for Friday’s Slopestyle finals.
The men started first and showed their skills in two runs, with the best run counting. The Canadian dominance in yesterday’s qualification continued today with all seven (!)...

40 men and 20 women, with top riders from around the world, took their best to advance into the finals, which will take place on Friday. With a score of 90.50, Japan’s 17-year old superstar Ayumu Hirano was the only one with a score over 90 at world’s biggest halfpipe. Olympic gold medalist Torah Bright from Australia landed in top position at women’s competition after heated battles.
After holding freestyle contests for nearly 30 years, the LAAX OPEN 2016 signals a new era in snowboarding...

The LAAX OPEN 2017 ended with exciting Halfpipe finals today. The perfectly shaped LAAX Superpipe on Crap Sogn Gion was the center of attention, when 12 men and 6 women were trying to grab the Halfpipe crown. After a heated battle, the twelve slopestyle finalists for LAAX OPEN 2016 have been figured out. Swedish top-rider Sven Thorgren showed the best performance of the day with a score of 89.05. He is followed beneath others by Canadian superstar Mark McMorris, winner of Olympic bronze medal in 2014, who was second best with 88.90 points. Stale Sandbech, winner from previous year Burton European Championships, surprisingly didn’t made it into the finals after falling on both of his runs.
