2022 World Rowing Indoor Championships - Overall Highlights
The finals of the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships took place from 25 - 26 Feb 2022.
Originally, it was planned to as a hybrid event to take place in Hamburg, Germany, but the global pandemic forced the event to become fully virtual once more.
Therefore, It was up to the athletes where to set up their rowing ergometer – in their gym, their living room or maybe even on their terrace.
Competitors had the opportunity to race for a World Championship title – from anywhere in the world, in the same race, at the same time.
In the Men’s Open 2000m category, Ward Lemmeljin from Belgium proves his finishing qualities and repeats as World Rowing Indoor Champion. The Belgian was 20m behind the leader at the 1500m mark and stormed back to take the gold medal, in 5:41.7.
In the Women’s Open 2000m race, it was a triple triumph from Chinese athletes: Zhang Peixin won the gold in 6:43.4, ahead of her fellow countrywomen Lv Yang (2nd place) and Xu Xingye (3rd place).
