In front of the fantastic backdrop of the Sahara Desert, twenty-five men and five women from 9 nations around the world competed for the inaugural Wingfoil Wave World Championship title. At the GWA Wingfoil World Cup New Zealand, the FreeFly Slalom final was held on the final day: Bastien Escofet (FRA) and Nia Suardiaz (ESP) were crowned the FreeFly Slalom winners for this first event of the season.

On day four of the GWA Wingfoil World Cup in New Zealand, the wind finally kicked in, allowing us to advance halfway through Men’s Round One with approximately 14 knots of wind. Despite the forecast looking positive, the wind did not show up until 4pm for day two of the GWA Wingfoil World Cup in New Zealand. The day was filled with alternative activities, including a Tow-in Surf Foil competition where the top riders participated.

The men’s seeding round consisted of 8 heats to determine the position of each rider in round 1. The conditions throughout the afternoon were certainly irregular as the AP flag went up several times, but with patience and determination, we managed to complete the full seeding round.

The women's final was an outstanding demonstration of how much this sport has evolved in such a short time. With a toeside frontside 3 and frontside 3, Paula Novotna was able to score points right at the start of the heat. Nia Suardiaz tried to counter with the same means, but she was no match for Paula Novotna's consistency and precision today. The GWA Wingfoil World Cup had its final day of competition in Tarifa (ESP). Paula Novotna from the Czech Republic won the championship early. For the young Xavi Corr (ESP) it is the first ever win at a GWA event.

The third day of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship was a total success, due to the wind blowing more than the day before, the race committee decided to launch Course Races. There was a total of 18 races that day!

The second tour stop of the 2022 European Freestyle Pro Tour was held from 9th – 12h of June in the picturesque and windy Vieste in Italy. Italian Jacopo Testa fended off Steven van Broeckhoven and went on to win the Double Elimination against Yentel Caers. An action-packed Super Final ensued to determine the event win. With a plethora of high scoring moves on both sides of the final, this was a day for the freestyle windsurfing books.

The European Freestyle Pro Tour started its windsurfing season on lake Neusiedl, Austria. Over 5 days spectators could see spectacular windsurfing tricks and all the sport can offer! Italian Jacopo Testa (ITA) wins the Men’s division, and Dutch Maaike Huvermann (NDL) takes the crown in the Women’s at the 2022 EFPT Surf Opening in Austria. The 2021 Engadinwind ended with iQ Foil World Championship. With a record field of participants the IQ Foil World championship is the most important and largest foil competition in 2021 with 250 participants from 37 nations.
