Russian victory in Ireland at midway stop of 2012 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series Some Irish luck with the weather and the excellent performances of the 14 athletes in harsh, but country-typical conditions combined in Saturday’s fourth stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2012 on the all-natural island of Inis Mór off the Irish west coast. From an almost round volcanic islet on the Azores to a near-perfect rectangular blowhole in Ireland – the location for the fourth stop of the World Series is laden with myth as much as it is out of the ordinary. 1,369km west of the European mainland, the Azores archipelago comprises nine islands spread over three groups and symbolizes the beginning of the grand adventure of discovery that began in the 15th century and led the Portuguese to have a presence in the four corners of the globe. Of volcanic origin, the Azores are undoubtedly one of the last paradises in Europe - appearing often in legends of the lost continent of Atlantis. The venue for the third of seven stops of the World Series is locate...

WEARING THE LABEL ‘CLIFF DIVER’ WITH PRIDE
They call themselves cliff divers, but still use a platform – why?
A high rock and some deep water – that is what makes a cliff diver’s heart beat faster. Searching, finding, conquering and enjoying a cliff and the rush that goes through the body after a dive. It’s all about pure nature and brave men. When these athletes exchange the cliff for a platform and show their jaw-dropping manoeuvres from at least 27 metres in front of a huge crowd of spec...
