In the men’s final, local hero Wesley Brito (Cape Verde) starts with a big wave score right out of the gate, followed by an air 360 to add more pressure on his French rival Benoit Carpentier. He chases Brito and tries to level with his amazing start to the men’s final, however he ends up on Ponta Preta’s rocks instead and bursts his wing. Wesley Brito takes the win in an exciting final, while also proving to be the best athlete throughout the entire competition by getting the highest heat score of the final day in the semifinal, 17.80 points from a possible 20. In the men’s Mini Final, Oahu-based Zane Schweitzer (USA) secures his 3rd place after losing out to Finalist Carpentier one round before.
In the women’s final, American Moona Whyte is up versus 16-year-old Nia Suardiaz from Spain: Whyte uses all her surfing experience to forge a strong lead from the start that Suardiaz can’t keep up with. USA’s Whyte secures therefore her second win in only three days in Cape Verde after winning the women’s final of the first GKA Kite-Surf World Cup of the 2023 season. Earlier in the women’s quarterfinals, 2022 Surf-Slalom World Champion Flora Artzner from France is eliminated from competition by newcomer Elena Moreno (ESP). In the women’s Mini Final for 3rd place, Dutch Bowien van der Linden takes the win and completes the first ever World Cup event podium in the Wave discipline.
