Strong winds also caused havoc in the second stage, a 47 kilometre kayaking leg down the Grey and Serrano rivers to the base of the massive Monte Balmaceda. Race organizers, Nomadas Outdoor Services were forced to delay the start of this section as a result of the high winds.
In addition to making the conditions particularly challenging physically, the wind has also caused some equipment problems, including gear problems and a kayak rudder failure.

In a spectacular start under the crystal clear mountains of Torres del Paine, the 2011 Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race began with a wild ride for the racers as they tailed a herd of horses down the dirt track on the opening cycling leg of the event.

18 kilometres of rowing, and seven kilometres of running while shouldering a 100-kilogram boat! These are the figures that make Red Bull XRow what it is - the world’s hardest rowing challenge!
The rest is pain, teamwork, and fun. The fastest team on the race course from Zug to Lucerne was the “Swiss Selection” with Mario Gyr and André Vonarburg, followed by the Frankfurter RG Germania and Seeclub Zurich.
