Stage 1 (98km distance // 1850m climbing) of the Cape Epic 2021 took the riders around Ceres today. In a tight finish on Stage 1, the BULLS (Urs Huber & Simon Schneller) and BULLS 2 (Martin Frey & Simon Stiebjahn) teams claimed first and second respectively, with Canyon Northwave MTB (Andreas Seewald & Martin Stošek) racing home in third.

On paper, Stage 1’s 110km/1900m course looked scripted for the marathon riders but as we discovered yesterday the Untamed African MTB Race is filled with surprises – and that’s exactly how the day played out. Stage 1 of the Absa Cape Epic is always referred to as one of the most challenging of the race, and it was no different for the 2014 event. The stage was as tough as it was beautiful with the most spectacular views rewarded after the most demanding climbs.

Yesterday the first stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place in the area around Robertson. 108 kilometres in distance and 2.450 climbing metres in the Langeberg Mountains had to be managed by the riders today. The weather was a mix of clouds and scattered rain showers, which made the descents pretty tricky!

The all-Swiss pairing of Scott-SRAM MTB-Racing won the 111km Stage 1 of the 2019 Absa Cape Epic in emphatic fashion on Monday 18 March. The 2nd stage of the Mediterranean Epic 2023 was, with 80 kilometres and 2,150 metres of altitude, the second longest stage in the history of the race and probably the one that could be called the queen stage in terms of toughness.

In the men's category, Andreas Seewald gave a demonstration of strength and power on a day that, on paper, was not the most favourable for him. The German Canyon-Northwave rider flew from the early stages of the day and chased down European XCM champion Fabian Rabensteiner (Willier-Pirelli) in just over 15 minutes of racing. The Mediterranean Epic 2023 started with a day's time trial to get a taste of the terrain that the bikers will encounter in the coming stages. A first contact where they have been able to check that this year mud, water and humidity will be part of some sections of the route. The 19 km route with more than 600 metres of elevation change took the participants from the Torre del Rey de Oropesa del Mar, at sea level, to the Oropesa antennas, more than 400 metres above sea level.
