In 2016 Portugal was in grip of one of the worst droughts in its recent history. With high winds and average temperatures above 30 degrees ( 86 Fahrenheit) the country, unfortunately, provides the perfect target for heavy wildfires.
Until August last year nearly 116,000 hectares (286,600 acres) of forest, an area the size of 100,000 soccer fields, got burned.

Due to small inconsistent waves The O'Neill Coldwater Classic Scotland was forced to hold off from running competition on the 2nd day after the incoming afternoon tide failed to pulse with adequate strength. After being placed on hold throughout the morning and early afternoon, event officials decided to return tomorrow morning to assess conditions for a possible restart of competition.

Stage 3’s transition from Robertson to Worcester might be the longest stage of this year’s race but with just 1800m of ascent spread over 122km, it is also the flattest.
