The seventh stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place in South Africa today. With 69km in distance and 1.800 climbing metres the riders had to climb the same high as in stage 6. However the riders had to get along with the final hurdles, like the climb up Nuweberg on forestry roads, with its steep and washed out descent. For the Grand Finale the riders were welcomed in Lourensford Bowl.

The sixth stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place in South Africa yesterday. With 85km in distance and 1.800 climbing metres the route was less brutal than in yesterday`s stage 5! However the riders had to be fully concentrated on the technical demanding single tracks around Oak Valley, as the Top 5 teams in the overall ranking were still close together! Every single mistake or problem would have been unforgiven.

The day again proved that the Absa Cape Epic is not for the faint-hearted. For the third consecutive day a top rider in the Men’s category withdrew. This time it was Rudi van Houts, partner of José Hermida (Multivan Merida Biking). Van Houts crashed on Thursday and even though he started the stage, could not go on. This follows the withdrawals of Hannes Genze and Karl Platt on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Stage 5 - Results:
1st place: Torpado Factory - 15-1 Roel Paulissen (BEL) / 15-2 Riccardo Chiarini (ITA)

It was another dramatic day at the Absa Cape Epic. Stage 4 was marred with the withdrawals of four-times champion Karl Platt and second-place mixed racer Cherise Stander. Team Bulls’ Platt from Germany has finished all 10 previous editions of the Cape Epic, but was left with no choice but to withdraw from the race because of a knee injury suffered during Stage 2. Stander, who partnered with Theo Blignaut for Team RECM in the mixed race and won Stage 3, had to stop because of breathing diffic...

Yesterday the fourth stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place. With 88km in distance and 1.800 climbing metres it was one of the “easier” stages of this year`s race! Fitting to the trend of the last three stages we saw the fourth different team winning a stage.
Stage 4/7 - Results:
1st place: SCOTT-Odlo MTB Racing - 6-1 Nino Schurter (SUI) / 6-2 Philip Buys (RSA)

Stage 3 was the longest day of the 2014 Absa Cape Epic, and was characterized by rolling hills and gravel roads. It had been described as a transition stage – with less demanding terrain – but a persistent wind made for tough conditions.

Yesterday the third stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place. With 134km in distance and 1.800 climbing metres it was the longest stage of the whole week and the race once again proved to be the most exciting edition ever! The riders pushed hard to get from Arabella Wines (Robertson) to the Oak Estate near Greyton.

Yesterday the second stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place. Again in the area around Arabella Wines near Robertson. 101 kilometres in distance and 1.550 climbing promised to be a little bit less heavy than the first stage, but due to heavy rain falls the single trails were soaked and very difficult to ride!

Stage 1 of the Absa Cape Epic is always referred to as one of the most challenging of the race, and it was no different for the 2014 event. The stage was as tough as it was beautiful with the most spectacular views rewarded after the most demanding climbs.

Yesterday the first stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place in the area around Robertson. 108 kilometres in distance and 2.450 climbing metres in the Langeberg Mountains had to be managed by the riders today. The weather was a mix of clouds and scattered rain showers, which made the descents pretty tricky!
