With two strong course records, the GENERALI MUNICH MARATHON has returned as an international elite race. Kenyan debutant Philimon Kipchumba crossed the finish line in the Olympic Stadium as the winner after 2:07:28 hours. Behind the 23-year-old followed Mengistu Zelalem (Ethiopia) and Berhane Tesfaye (Eritrea), who with times of 2:07:56 and 2:08:10 respectively also remained well below the previous course record. In fourth place Sebastian Hendel (LG Braunschweig) ran a strong marathon debut with 2:10:37.
The fastest woman also came from Kenya: Agnes Keino triumphed in 2:23:26 and also set a personal best. The 34-year-old won ahead of 2015 marathon world champion Mare Dibaba (Ethiopia), who finished in 2:24:12. Third place went to Souad Kambouchia of Morocco in 2:27:35.
