On an absolutely stunning day, 12 men and 6 women took to the largest halfpipe in the world, at Europe’s premier snowboard event — the LAAX OPEN. During the riders three runs the battles got crazy, making it difficult to predict who would win, but in the end it was Japan’s Ayumu Hirano, and USA’s Arielle Gold, who went away 2016 LAAX OPEN Halfpipe champs, $75.000 and $45,000 USD richer.

40 men and 20 women, with top riders from around the world, took their best to advance into the finals, which will take place on Friday. With a score of 90.50, Japan’s 17-year old superstar Ayumu Hirano was the only one with a score over 90 at world’s biggest halfpipe. Olympic gold medalist Torah Bright from Australia landed in top position at women’s competition after heated battles.

The first 5Star halfpipe competition of the 2011/12 TTR World Tour season is in the bag and Japanese rider, Ryo Aono, and American, Kelly Clark, took home the victories at the 2011 Burton New Zealand Open. It was another perfect day at Cardrona Alpine Resort and the level of riding was set high from the start by the talented field of international riders. Ryo and Kelly both took home $7,000 NZD for their wins and earned 850 TTR ranking points that will count towards both the Halfpipe World T...
