Snow Bike Festival Gstaad 2017 – Stage 2 & 3
Snow Bike Festival Gstaad 2017 – Stage 2 & 3
On stage 2 the riders had once again to start on the promenade in Gstaad. The riders climbed a slope to reach Egli, from there on the athletes faced a challenging combination of downhill and uphill to Feutersoey and Gsteig followed by a little climb and then by a tricky downhill. Afterwards the riders headed back to Gstaad on a winter hiking trail. It was Florian Chenaux who won stage 2, just in front of Bauer Markus and Sascha Weber. The Eliminator Night Race was one of the action packed highlights of the entire festival. Riders faced-off against a small group of other riders under floodlights, a knock-out format determined the champion.
The last and final stage 3 brought a scenic ride to the competitors. The route lead the riders into the idyllic Turbach valley. Once leaving the valley there was some time for recovery and enjoying the view into the valley of Leuenen. Nevertheless the riders faced afterwards the so called “Wall of Lauenen” – a tough challenge for the riders. Just after the village the climb to Lake Lauenen began. From there hiking trails, little roads and small single tracks brang the riders back to Gstaad. It was Nicola Rhorbach who crossed the finish line first at stage 3. Chenaux secures second place, after a hard fight with Sascha Weber and Joris Ryf. Hielke Elferink ended up in first in the womens category, ehich was the biggest surprise at stage 3.
In the GC Nicola Rohrbach and Katrin Leumann secure victories at the first UCI stage race on snow. Florian Chenaux and Markus Bauer finish 2nd and 3rd. The women’s podium is completed by Esther Süss (2nd) and Cornelia Hug (3rd).
