British diver Blake Aldridge catapulted himself to the top of the overall Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series standings after a maiden victory on US soil at Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas.
In what was one of the closest finals from the 27m platform ever, only eleven points separated the top seven divers, Aldridge edged out Jonathan Paredes to ensure there has been a different male winner at all four stops this season. An enthusiastic crowd of 9000 fans on boats, kayaks and paddleboards cheered American David Colturi into third place and his second podium finish in a row. In the women’s competition, Rhiannan Iffland continued her dominance from the 21m platform and repeated her 2016 success at the venue. The Australian, 25, stood atop the podium for the third time this season after another commanding
performance that stretched her lead at the top of the overall standings. Mexico’s Adriana Jimenez in second place and fellow Australian Helena Merten in third joined her on the podium. The World Series next moves on to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina before the season finale in Lago Ranco, Chile.
