Jarrad Howse fills us in about the highlight of the Round of 48, on the event’s 4th day. Wild weather with strong winds and heavy rain make it difficult for the pros, with Bobby Martinez (USA) and Corey Lopez (USA) being eliminated. In defiance of the difficult conditions at lighthouse beach Stuart Kennedy (AUS) and Joel Centeio (HAW) progressed through to Round of 24. Heath Joske, with a spectacular “air reverse”, and his good friend Jayke Sharp (AUS) also make it to the next round. Current World Junior Champion Maxime Huscenot (REU) and Junior Sensation Davey Cathels (AUS) surfed through to Round of 24 as well. Jarrad’s heat of the day is Brendon Jackson (ZAF),who scores a total of 16.60, and Wiggolly Dantas (BRA) also make it to the next round.

Jarrad, who finished runner up last year in Tasmania is keen to do well again. He gets his van set up for the night to catch some early sleep. The next morning he shows us how he prepares for a heat. First of all he chooses the right wetsuit for the conditions, waxes his board and has some breakfast. To get psyched for his heat he listens to some music before he paddles out. He is pretty disappointed that he didn’t pass through his heat, but looks forward to his chance in Scotland.
