Kenyan debutant Philimon Kipchumba crossed the finish line in the Olympic Stadium as the winner after 2:07:28 hours. Behind the 23-year-old followed Mengistu Zelalem (Ethiopia) and Berhane Tesfaye (Eritrea), who with times of 2:07:56 and 2:08:10 respectively also remained well below the previous course record.
