For 30 years the resort of LAAX in Switzerland has built its reputation as the world’s most progressive freestyle snowboard destination. The culmination of this development is the LAAX OPEN 2016 - a snowboard contest that brought together the world’s best freestyle snowboarders and upcoming riders for halfpipe and slopestyle competitions offering also live music events, acrobatic and mystic shows as well as a pop-up restaurant in the gondola hall to make it a true mountain lifestyle affair.

The third and final stage on Sunday was again greeted with fantastic weather and provided for excellent riding conditions. The race started in the promenade in Gstaad. The highlight of the Snow Bike Festival Gstaad 2016 was the Eliminator Night Race, where small groups of riders chase each other on a specially prepared floodlight course: at the thrilling duels, one rider after the other will be eliminated until only the winner will remain.

Stage 2 of the Snow Bike Festival started yesterday morning with a bit of an overcast and with a more comfortable reading on the thermometer compared to stage 1. The terrain however was a bit more slippery at stage 2 compared to stafe 1 as some of the ice on the roads began to melt due to the warmer conditions. It was Thomas Misser who won the race in the men category and Hielke Elferink who won in the women category.
