A first contact where they have been able to check that this year mud, water and humidity will be part of some sections of the route. The 19 km route with more than 600 metres of elevation change took the participants from the Torre del Rey de Oropesa del Mar, at sea level, to the Oropesa antennas, more than 400 metres above sea level.

Amazingly though, the Absa Cape Epic has visited the region on numerous occasions and 2021 is only the second time the race has overnighted in the small Warmbokkeveld town.

Creative way to fix your bike: Simon Schneller (GER) from BULLS youngsters Team had to deal with a broken back axle during the race. His solution was to take what nature gives you and stabilise with some wooden sticks he found on the ground. Later he wrapped some tape around the crucial spot in order to finish stage 6 of the Absa Cape Epic.

Stage 1 of the Absa Cape Epic is always referred to as one of the most challenging of the race, and it was no different for the 2014 event. The stage was as tough as it was beautiful with the most spectacular views rewarded after the most demanding climbs.

Yesterday the first stage of the Absa CAPE EPIC 2014 took place in the area around Robertson. 108 kilometres in distance and 2.450 climbing metres in the Langeberg Mountains had to be managed by the riders today.
